Featuring Healing Verse Germantown community poetry.
bullets don’t bloom
25¢ candies, jump roping @ the front steps
mom + pop shops, slow summer day laying in the shade
sweeping up the street
as the neighbors say hey
neighborhood watch knew everybody name + everybody business
that’s what it meant to be
each other’s harvest
the world got itself into a big rush
too many cars, not enough room on the bus
fast food replaced our plates — no more space to play
trees cut down to put up poles for electricity
cement poured over a whole city
concrete heat, boiling yungbloods
til the pot runs over
pop pop goes the water on flame
pop pop goes the sound of pain
a garden needs to bloom here
