Featuring Healing Verse Germantown community poetry.
For the Living
no more pins and needles
sitting
waiting
for the other shoe
it already dropped
eggshells cracked
chickens came home and roosted
earth swallowed and spit out
sea boiled—storm raged
back plastered against the wall
axe chopped
bottom dropped out
you changed your middle name to tender
your body’s map leads you to streets
paved with kindness
you befriended a girl named grace
and you two frolic wildly:
you made all the green lights on germantown ave
you tasted the ginger, cardamom and cloves in your chai
you read the books you’ve written
you rsvp to your grand life
you are a spout now
joy trickles
onto the everyday things
and you catch the nectar
they say you can’t come back from the darkest days
it’s a lie
congratulations
