My View of the G
Outside my window I see the privileged
side of the G and backyards
invisible to the streets
I hear 808s from Dreams and
Nightmares, but I don’t see
the car it blasts from
I taste my last meal, courtesy of
my mom or OG
I smell the “fresh” air tainted by
cigarette smoke and piss reminding
me of endless coughing and lung damage
I feel as if I am outside of where I am
and it feels like a lie to me.
I move silently and efficiently because I
got stuff to do.
I fear nothing, but I know what
happens on these sidewalks.
I hope for a safe journey to and
back.
I am my guardian, my lookout,
my messenger.
