Featuring Healing Verse Germantown community poetry.
We are always
When we get together at the top of each morning, the music is just right
We speak of love and compassion for the collective
Each of us striving for a breakthrough
Eventually we settle into the Black quietude; these become the most profound moments
When they ask us what we are made of
we tell them all the lives we have lived
all we have done and undone to get us here;
each one longing for a home
We are always
We are water and chicken from the bone
We are made of a tender hearts
We are made of girls with gaps in their front teeth
We are always
In the mornings we come to give each other sweet risings
we crave the makings of Summer days and moonlit fields of laughter
when the rain disappears
we become raw fruit for the throat and all the colors of love
We want more of each other’s gifts adding water to fire and soil
Gentle hands of many makers sow seeds of togetherness that germinate under
the swamps of Germantown
We are always
