Words to the Girl I Used to Be from the Woman I’m Becoming
Oh my sweet summer child, if I could reach back through time, I’d draw you up and
hold you tight.
And at the risk of sounding cliche (you’ll roll your eyes at me I know) I’d remind
you that everything will pass the way it has and always will.
I’d tell you, every time you think the world is ending, it’s only the beginning.
I’d let you know one day you’re going to be happier than you ever imagined
possible.
One day you’re going to wake up to the clatter of skillets in the kitchen, the sun
peeking through your shades, the smell of coffee and cologne and dog hair and
possibility in every sense of the word
And you’re going to know you’ve come a long way, but you’re going much farther.
